About Me
I work hard and I enjoy life. I live in North Staffordshire with Mat, my husband of 16 years, our son Leo, and Harry our very spoilt Borkie!
When I am not out photographing weddings, I love to spend every spare weekend I can with my family and friends.
I adore the Lake District, it’s my happy place and the dream is that one day I can call it my home.
I am a passionate Take That fanatic (I even have a TT tattoo). And can’t ever miss a Take That tour. Don’t hold it against me.
I love long walks and cold mornings (but I love warm sunny ones more – on a balcony in another country), cups of tea, holidays, chocolate and cheesy 90s’ tunes.
I am a massive football fan, but I won’t tell you who I support in case it puts you off…
My love for photography started when I was 16 years old when I had my first camera. My uncle was a keen snapper, and I was in awe of how he could capture family parties and special celebrations. He taught me the ins and outs of working with a camera. He is no longer with us, but I am now the proud custodian of his camera gear, something I hold dearly, and I know he would be so proud of my achievements (and he would have loved taking all the credit for them too).
In the early years, my love was for press photography, leading to almost 14 years of working at my local newspaper.
I was fortunate to travel to some wonderful places with my job: New York, Florida, Kiev, and Valencia in Spain, covering the weirdest and most wonderful jobs you can imagine, and lots of football.
I love what I do
Roll on 2024 and my business Clara Lou Photography is celebrating its 10th year. It’s been a rollercoaster, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love what I do. I love all of my couples and am so grateful to them for trusting me with their weddings.
So why would you want to hire me?
With more than 20 years’ experience in the profession, I have the knowledge and expertise to capture your wedding day in the best possible way – and with lots of fun and laughter thrown in.
Your wedding day is a life event, and you will want to remember every moment.
I am with you for the majority of your day. You need someone you gel with instantly or you won’t get the best out of your day. I want to make sure I get the first looks in the morning, the tears during the ceremony, the fun of the drinks’ reception, the laughter of the speeches and not forgetting some great moves on the dance floor.
After 14 years of being a press photographer, I pretty much know all the tricks about convincing someone who doesn’t want their photograph taken, that they actually like it, and want more…
I’m here to stay. I have had the business for 10 years this year. In that time, I have photographed more than 300 weddings. Many of my bookings are from family members and friends of couples whose weddings I have covered. They saw me in action, saw the results and knew right then they wanted me to be there on their own wedding day.
Just call me Mary Poppins
I have had to sew numerous brides into their dresses because they have snapped just before the walk down the aisle.
I had to lend a spare pair of undies to a bridesmaid (safe to say I didn’t ask for them back).
I always have a bum bag strapped to me full of goodies such as crochet hooks, hair pins, pins for flowers, sewing kits, scissors…
I’m always there to help brides re-do their hair and make-up, day or evening. I carry dresses, hold bouquets, and fetch drinks for my brides. I’m an extra pair of hands so everyone else in the wedding party can enjoy their day. I help to keep a day running on time and make sure the job gets done even if everything doesn’t go exactly to plan.
